This hand-thrown vase is made from a unique quartz-based clay body, distinct from conventional ceramics. Meena Devi, working in Jaipur's traditional Blue Pottery district, applies each motif freehand using natural mineral pigments — cobalt blue, turquoise, and white. No two vases are identical. Fired at low temperatures, the piece has a characteristic softness and translucency that machine-made ceramics cannot replicate.

Meena Devi learned the art of Jaipur Blue Pottery from her mother at the age of nine. Today, at 43, she runs a small studio in the old city with her two daughters. Her work has been exhibited at the Crafts Museum in Delhi and the V&A Museum in London. She uses only traditional quartz-based clay and natural mineral pigments — refusing to switch to commercial glazes that would make production faster but the work less honest.
